UHCW has an established high quality Hepatology service supported by 2 specialist Hepatology Nurses, 2 viral hepatitis nurses, and 3 alcohol specialist nurses (soon to be 5, as a further 2 have just been appointed).

We have a 5-day per week alcohol care team but are hoping to expand to a 7-day service in the future.

We have a dedicated fast-track jaundice clinic run by specialist nurses and supported by the hepatology consultant body. At present we have a dedicated metabolic liver clinic, HCC and autoimmune liver clinics. There is a comprehensive GI bleed service, with interventional radiology and TIPPS service on site.


You will:


  • Provide a comprehensive Gastroenterology, Hepatology,
Endoscopy, and Nutrition service to patients in Coventry, Warwickshire and beyond.

  • Be expected to have experience in a wide range of gastroenterological conditions and to work with colleagues to deliver the service in the Trust.
  • Undertake unselected endoscopy lists booked to a standard template.
  • Take responsibility for patients under your care.

Provide a consultation service and advisory service to other clinical colleagues in other specialties within the Trust and Primary Care.


  • Participate in the development of the gastroenterology service, treatment protocols and guidelines and the greater knowledge in the management of gastroenterology conditions.
