Sessional Youth Worker


To guide and support young people from areas of high deprivation, currently within South Leeds, in their holistic development, with the aim of helping them reach their full potential within society.

This role will require you to predominately work with those between the ages of 8 and 16 in a variety of settings, including detached work, drop ins, sport & creative art sessions, trips, mentoring, community, and residential environments.

To bring your work experience and passion to make a difference in the lives of young people and the communities that they live in.

This role will also require you to coordinate the delivery across South Leeds of Enhanced Youth Work.


We are interested in looking for aspiring and experienced Youth Workers with or willing to work towards recognised Youth Work qualifications.


Key Areas of Responsibility

As a youth worker you will need to:

  • Establish positive relationship with young people and those within the community.
  • Assess the needs and support individuals and groups within a variety of settings.
  • Be a positive role model for those within the local community (lead by example).
  • Deliver programmes, covering areas such as: confidence and aspirations; sexual health and relationships; violence and anger management; alcohol and substance use/abuse; life skill development; educational opportunity, educational development & emotional literacy, teamwork & leadership.
  • To help identify, mentor, coach and support individuals, and encourage greater social inclusion.
  • Build relationship and work effectively with other organisations that have been identified by Reestablish, towards community transformation.
  • Work with parents/guardians and community groups to win support for improved provision, and act as an advocate for young people's interests.
  • Support, mentor and help develop young leaders, volunteers and sessional staff.
  • Regularly monitor and review the quality of the work that we deliver; and write any required reports.
  • Attend training and development opportunities, maintain an uptodate knowledge of safe guarding, health and safety and first aid.
  • Support other team members in their roles as sessional workers, volunteers, or young leaders.
  • Carry out other tasks as directed from time to time, according to the needs of the project.
  • Work within our School to provide individual and group support sessions as required.

Skills:


  • You will need to show a strong commitment to young people and an understanding of the factors affecting their lives and the lives of those who live in challenging areas of society.
  • The ability to provide reliable support to young people in times of stress and act with integrity.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish good relationships with young people and those within the community.
  • Patience, tolerance and flexibility.
  • A sense of adventure and a willingness to try new things.
  • The ability to treat others concerns with respect and sensitivity, whilst being aware of confidentiality and the law.
  • Have an understanding of child protection and working with vulnerable adults.
  • To be trustworthy and willing to lead by example.
  • A desire to positively make a difference in other people's lives.
  • Have good time management skills.
  • A full UK driving licence is essential for this role, ideally with access to own car.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Experience within this field, either paid or voluntary, is preferred for this role
  • GCSE Maths and English (C or above)
  • Ideally qualified at degree level or above to work with young people
  • Ideally qualified at Level 6 in Youth Work, alternatively requires a minimum of a Level 3 Youth Work qualification with the option to complete a Level
  • Experience in leading both projects and teams in a Youth Work Setting.

Pay:
£11.44-£14.00 per hour
