NRM, part of the Cawood Scientific Group, is the UK's largest independent provider of agronomic and environmental waste analysis for land-based industries.

We offer water, soil, manures, fertilisers and plant tissue analysis to farmers, growers and agronomists for improved farm productivity, as well as land-based environmental services including composted waste, anaerobic digestate, effluents and industrial renewables.


NRM are currently looking for a
Team Leaderto join their Trace Elements section on a Full-Time, Permanent basis, based in
Bracknell.

Role and Responsibilities:


  • To oversee, carry out preparation for and analyse RBP and BMP tests.
  • Attention to detail and understanding data so that you may have to discuss and justify your results and decisions to managers as well as dealing with customer queries.
  • Perform maintenance and calibrate instrument.
  • Organise collection and preparation of inoculum. Manage quantity with regards to personal usage as well as organise delivery of inoculum to STC for BMP
  • Make up nutrient solutions by following the Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Oversee and handle large quantities of data and curate/analyse data sets regarding individual equipment, inoculum batches and customers.
  • Check data before releasing results and transfer onto the LIMS system.
  • Manage analysts directly under your supervision and being responsible for them while they carry out work assigned by you.
  • Dealing with the REAL (governing body of RBP analysis) including having meeting with representatives from REAL to discuss trends, results, and the future of the test. Also taking part in REAL audits and being able to show competence and understanding of the test during these audits.
  • Handling customer investigations into results that may deviate from the primary analysis and being able to balance normal workflow while delivering high quality investigations into results and being able to present and understand your findings.
  • Writing up investigations as Non-Conforming Work Reports for the Environment section including investigations not involving RBP and BMP. Including presentation and analysis of data in a high standard of quality to be able to draw up conclusions for the report.
  • Communicate well with WRC who undertake subcontracted analysis of RBP when capacity is limited, making sure to carry out quarterly crossovers with them to ensure results are consistent between both sites.
  • Auditing WRC for RBP analysis yearly, writing up a detailed audit report and being able to spot where improvements could be made.
  • To work in other analytical roles within the company as the workload dictates.
  • Maintain Cawood credibility by always portraying a positive image, keeping equipment and PPE clean.
  • Respect company equipment and use as per guidelines and to report any damage to management as soon as possible.
  • Work as a team and maintain morale and actively offer help and assistance wherever possible.
  • Understand and follow the Standard Operating Procedures provided.
  • Keeping safety at the forefront of laboratory work and being proactive ensuring accidents and near misses are always reported straightaway to managers in line with our company accreditation and policy.
