Role purpose and overview

The Foreign Breaking News Reporter will run news live blogs, breaking new lines in blogs, and ensuring the latest developments including video and pictures are covered.

They will also break stories online and develop static breaking news files as necessary.
Key responsibilities

  • Running live blogs on the major stories of the day.
  • Building up understanding of key topic areas, filling blogs with insight from a range of sources.
  • Generating and seeking out news stories and new lines on stories.
  • Breaking and building up news stories online.
  • Writing news stories across digital and print.
  • The Foreign Breaking News Reporter will work closely with editors to ensure the best lines are leading the website and are included in blogs and files.
Key skills

  • Experience of working in news at regional, national or international level is essential.
  • Experience of breaking news stories is essential.
  • Experience of working to tight deadlines is essential.
  • Experience of publishing stories online is essential.
  • A good working understanding of social media channels is essential.
  • An understanding of what drives digital engagement in a subscriptionbased news organisation is desirable.
  • Full knowledge of media law is essential.
