Personal Assistants (Support Workers) have the most important role within ENABLE Scotland by making a positive difference every day to the lives of the people we support.

No two days are the same for our Personal Assistants but what we can guarantee is that you will be supporting someone with a learning disability to achieve their goals and outcomes - whatever they may be


Each person we support has different support needs, so your role as Support Worker may include assisting them with various aspects of personal care, moving and handling or positive behavioural support whilst expanding their social networks and connections.


ENABLE Scotland creates a bespoke team around every individual we support, and our team of Personal Assistants work collaboratively to ensure the safety, wellbeing and aspirations of the people we support are met.

The people we support have many varied interests and hobbies and have many of the same dreams and aspirations as we do; they just too often do not get the opportunity to experience these same opportunities.

Patrick is a young adult who is very independent. Patrick enjoys videogames and at times can become very isolated from his support.

Patrick can be difficult to motivate and requires somebody who appears cool, calm and collect as if he feels someone is being overly enthusiastic and pushy he can feel patronised and will not engage with support.

Patrick enjoys motorbikes, horticulture and photography.

Patrick has a very quick and witty sense of humour and may try and catch you off caught with one of his jokes.

Once Patrick has gotten to know support he relies on them and seeks support and guidance on personal matters. Patrick enjoys compliments and is a very wise man, he appreciates when notice this about him.

Patrick would like to go camping and fishing with support in the summertime so someone with this experience would be a great match for Patrick.

Patrick typically receives support anytime between 09:30 and 21:00 on weekdays only as he spends weekends with his family and friends.

Freddie is an elderly gentleman who receives support everyday between the hours of 12-5pm every day. Freddie requires support with domestic tasks, finances, medication and meal preparation. Freddie likes a personal assistant who has good time keeping and is well organised.

Freddie needs some support with his mobility and can require encouragement from staff when going out into his local community.

Freddie likes to watch football in his downtime and previously enjoyed visiting his local pub with support from staff and this is something he would like to do more as he stopped going throughout covid.

Freddie is a friendly man who appreciates good humour.

Dale receives support if possible every day. Support times can vary between 10:00 and 21:00.

Dale requires support with the cleaning and maintenance of his home, Dale can at times hide his mail and requires support to keep on top of this and attend to any important letters.

Dale likes to go out socially with support, he particularly enjoys horror films and has expressed an interest in going to the cinema with support to see the latest horror films.

Another are Dale requires support with is cooking, Dale can cook microwave meals however struggles with nutritious home cooked meals.

He enjoys home cooked meals like spaghetti bolognaise but is not confident in preparing and cooking this.

It would be a long term goal of Dale to be able to do this independently with the support of staff.

Dale can also be difficult to motivate so really requires someone with an can do attitude to encourage and motivate him.
