Community and Events officer


Hours: 30 hours week over 4 days, to include weekends as required (for Events/presentations etc)

Salary:
£13 per hour

Teckels are looking to recruit a highly organised and approachable individual to join our team.

The role involves building and nurturing connections with community groups and local businesses to form mutually beneficial relationships.


We need someone who is highly motivated and eager to help us reach our maximum potential with driving income into the charity.

We are seeing an increasing number of dogs and cats needing our help, so would love to find someone who is equally as passionate about helping our cause as the rest of our wonderful team


Role summary:

The role will be responsible for the charity's Community Engagements and managing Fundraising Events.


The focus of the role is to ensure that our Fundraising events are run smoothly and efficiently, that they continue to expand and increase the charity's' income, and that all attendees have a positive experience.


The role will also manage the charity's partnerships with local businesses, corporate groups, and community organisations, to ensure mutually beneficial relationships are built and maintained.


The role will work alongside the Volunteer Coordinator, Digital media officer and Events & Volunteer Assistant, and be line managed by the centre manager.


Main duties:


Responsibilities include but will not be limited to:

  • Promote and maintain a positive and engaging profile for Teckels, through presentations to prospective funders, participating in networking events and building on external relationships that relate toTeckels aims and objectives. This includes overseeing our existing local partnership with Pets at home and other established partners.
  • Develop and maximise Corporate support through donations and match giving, and work alongside the VC to maintain good relationships with local businesses who donate resources through corporate volunteering days etc.
  • Build on Teckels existing community and events fundraising programme; to include managing our Summer show, Christmas fair, Easter event and other offsite events from start to finish;

Manage and oversee events on the day of happening, including problem solving, welcoming guests/supporters, directing event set-up, communicating with staff and organizing vendors.

Ensure all event equipment such as gazebo's, tables, chairs, information stand, marketing materials, etc are available and loaded onto vehicles the night before and then unloaded when returned.


  • Work closely with the VC to ensure that all events as appropriately staffed by volunteers as much as possible.
  • Ensure that all donors have a positive supporter experience and provide great customer care
- through various platforms including face to face and at events.

  • Liaise with the DMO to create promotional material for each event, to ensure functions are well advertised and attended. This includes digital and printed materials.
  • Be responsible, alongside the events assistant, for sourcing prizes for fundraising events.
  • Work with the DMO to Produce and distribute our quarterly newsletter.

General

  • They must act as an ambassador for the charity, promoting its work and presenting a professional image.
  • They must be available to work flexibly around large events
- work weekend days when needed, and the occasional evening.

  • Maintain an awareness of best practice within Press/PR/Comms specifically within animal welfare charities.
  • Operate in line with relevant legislation and Teckels policies, particularly in relation to children, vulnerable adults and volunteers
  • Any other reasonable duties as required by the management and trustee team

Person Specification

Essential Criteria
-
To have worked in a similar role (ideally within a charity), or have relevant qualifications/experience.
-
Full, clean driving licence

  • Excellent IT and administration skills including competent ability with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, outlook.
  • GCSE or equivalent in English and Maths
  • Strong copywriting skills
  • An excellent understanding of social media and engaging the relevant audience for the topic
  • An understanding of Safeguarding, Risk management and safety requirements, particularly in relation to animals and their welfare
  • Proven ability to plan and prioritise a varied workload in a methodical and organised manner, without the need for significant supervision
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and be comfortable and confident speaking to the press.
  • Be reliable and flexible with a proven track record of timekeeping and attendance
  • Proven ability to engage and work effectively with large groups of people with varying backgrounds
  • Personable and Approachable
  • Proven ability to demonstrate tact and discretion when dealing with sensitive and confidential information or situat
