Description

Research Assistant for Spatial Planning of Sustainable Tropical Aquaculture:

Are you an early career researcher looking for your first challenge? Do you have a background in marine conservation planning? Do you want to further your career in one of the UK's leading research intensive Universities?
Prawn aquaculture is a key threat to mangrove forests in Asian tropical countries.

Funded by the Darwin Initiative, the holder of this role will work with Indonesian collaborators to help design a spatial plan for aquaculture development and mangrove replantation in East Kalimantan.

Experience in spatial planning and decision science for resource management is a prerequisite, as are strong quantitative analytical skills.

You will communicate and work with Indonesian collaborators in NGOs, local communities, and research institutions to ensure locally-led data collection is incorporated into the marine spatial plan - so experience with working in Indonesia is a strong advantage.

For this role, you should have a first degree/Masters in marine quantitative ecology or decision science or a closely allied discipline.

You should also have experience in marine spatial planning with Marxan or PrioritizR, modelling and quantitative analysis in R, and in GIS and spatial analysis.
