The haematological malignancy diagnostic service (HMDN) Nottingham works closely with Molecular Medicine and Genomics to generate integrated reports for the diagnosis of haematological malignancies.
This is an exciting opportunity to join the team as a laboratory administrator and support with the joint roles between HMDN and Genomics.
Main duties of the jobThe post holder will undertake general administrative tasks to support the efficient and effective running of HMDN.
In addition to this the post holder will be directly responsible for any administrative duties required as part of collaborative work with Molecular Medicine and Genomics.
Tasks will include inputting results into a LIMS system, communicating with external laboratories, send away sample management and assisting with auditing processes.
The post holder will work under the supervision of senior staff and will liaise with all members of the HMDN and Genomics team.
The HMDN department is part of Cellular Pathology and provides a regional diagnostic service for the diagnosis of Heamatological malignancies.
The department receives a variety of specimens including bone marrows, bloods and fluids and performs investigations in conjunction with Genomics to produce an integrated report.
The service is quality driven and compliant with UKAS ISO15189 standards and the administrative duties are key to maintaining this.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities- To be responsible for day to day departmental administrative duties.
- To assist the Lead Administrator where necessary to maintain efficient workflow
- Liaise with internal and external members of staff to resolve any queries
- Act as the administrative link between Molecular Medicine & Genomics and HMDN and work closely with local and regional laboratories
- Prepare, package and send referral samples away to external laboratories for various investigations and follow up where necessary to expedite results.
- Input of results to the LIMS system ensuring accuracy also supporting appropriate transfer of results to service users.
- Work closely with the HMDN leadership team to develop IT interoperability between HMDN and local and regional genomics laboratories.
- Perform and assist with audits to identify process gaps and ensure the department is compliant with UKAS ISO standards
- Assist with the preparation of MDTs
- Take minutes at department meetings as required.
- Participate in Helpdesk activities including the accurate verbal transmission and results to service users as required.
- Comply with Trust policies and national legislation regarding confidentiality of patient information, the Data Protection Act 1998 and Health and safety law.
- Perform general office duties including data entry, general filing, issue of reports, and photocopying
- Undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade as required
Qualifications and Training
Essential criteria
- 4 GCSE's including English
- Knowledge and experience using software programs e.g Microsoft Office
- Recognised secretarial/administration qualification e.g NVQ in Administration

- Minute taking and servicing meetings
- Knowledge of a range of secretarial procedures within an administration office setting
- Knowledge of hospital systems

Salary:
The quoted salary will be on a pro rata basis for part time workers.
