Store Detective

Reports to
Area Manager

Full time Role

Must have security experience and be able to travel between Birmingham and surrounding areas


Role Summary:

Minimise thefts within retail premises
Arrest suspected shoplifters (adhering to ASCONE)
Conduct civil recovery on shoplifters where applicable
Provide covert presence within retail premises
Provide safe and secure working environment for all staff
Provide safe and secure environment for all shoppers


Responsibilities:


  • Monitor customers who enter and leave the store.
  • Operate internal security patrols as per the Assignment Instructions.
  • Monitor shoppers who behave suspiciously, continually, and fully observing before apprehension in accordance with ASCONE procedure.
  • Operate customer stop and search policies of suspected thieves.
  • Arrest suspects in accordance with law.
  • Detain offenders in accordance with ASCONE and company procedures held in Assignment Instructions.
  • Adhere to site Assignment Instructions and sign acknowledgement.
  • Maintain sound knowledge of legislation.
  • Write reports of daily activities and irregularities, such as property damage and theft.
  • Carry out initial investigations and report both verbally and in writing on incidents of theft and suspicious activities.
  • Obtain statements from witnesses.
  • Call the police and attend while a suspect is being questioned.
  • Complete civil recovery procedures where appropriate.
  • Report instances of property at risk of being lost, stolen, damaged or vandalised.
  • Liaise with store staff and management to reduce theft.
  • Build partnership relations with Police and other agencies.
  • Improve knowledge of stock loss.
  • Report major issues; wrongful arrests, physical assaults, fire, flood, bomb evacuations to Area Manager immediately.
  • Maintain records daily of the arrests and deters for the Key Performance Indicator (KPI) analysis and potential legal requirements, utilising pocket notebooks, incident reports and other appropriate documentation.
  • Submit KPI Indicator figures when requested by Area Managers.
