Job Purpose


To supervise a team of Vehicle Technicians to maintain & repair a specialist fleet of police vehicles efficiently & cost-effectively, thereby meeting all Force and legislative requirements.


Knowledge & Experience


Postholder must have Level 5 NVQ or above in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair in order to assess vehicles and quality assure work undertaken.


Must have sound manufacturer product training and attend manufacturers specialist courses as and when required to ensure up to date knowledge is maintatined.

Knowledge of vehicle repair techniques and industry best practice is essential.

Must have the Institute of Leadership and Management Level 3 Qualification. Supervisory experience is essential Successfully developed and lead a team to deliver business objectives. Understands different leadership styles and the benefits of coaching to support people and improve performance. Understands organisational cultures, equality, diversity and inclusion. Understands people and team management models, including team dynamics and motivation techniques.

Understands HR systems and legal requirements, and performance management techniques including setting goals and objectives, conducting appraisals, reviewing performance, absence management, providing constructive feedback, and recognising achievement and good behaviour.


Managed a service delivery experience in an industrial automotive environment and be able to build a high-performing team by supporting and developing individuals and motivating them to achieve.

Able to set operational and personal goals and objectives and monitor progress, providing clear guidance and feedback.

Ability to manage customer and stakeholder relationships including emotional intelligence and managing conflict. Ability to facilitate cross team working to support delivery of organisational objectives.

Knowledge and understanding of all vehicle related regulation and legislation pertaining to potholder's area of responsibility. Knows statutory regulations for vehicles and specialised equipment.

Knows the HSE regulations associated to the vehicle repair industry, specifically to mechanical repair or servicing and roadside repair activity.

Understands multiple vehicle manufacture warranty governance / agreements and repair process

Able to communicate organisation strategy and team purpose and adapt style to suit the audience. Support the development of the team and people through coaching, role modelling values and behaviours, and managing change effectively.

Able to communicate effectively (verbal, written, digital), chair meetings and present to team and management. Use of active listening and provision of constructive feedback.

Must be First Aid "appointed person" trained.

Must be a Control of Substance Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Risk Assessor

Must hold Automotive Accreditation to Service Advisor

Must attend Driver Vehicle Standards Agency Site Manager Training.


Must hold a category B driving licence (car) with access to own vehicle as the postholder is required to travel to other locations in order to carry out the requirements and duties of the role.
