Job Purpose To identify, collect and enter trauma data onto the TARN EDCR (Electronic Data Collection & Reporting system)
Working independently, acquire details of potential trauma cases for inclusion in the TARN database using the IT department's monthly TARN search and supplementary lists of deaths or transfers-out from the A&E; check each case against the patient's notes to confirm whether it meets the inclusion criteria for the TARN database.
Long periods of concentration are required as attention to medical detail is paramount. Information can contain distressing material.
Review and develop procedures for data collection or reporting as necessary and contribute to raising awareness of adequate documentation within the A&E department.
Distribute TARN's Clinical Reports; create reports using the TARN ECDR reporting function when requested and provide progress reports to the Acute Phase Trauma Care group.
Maintain the compliance of the IT Department's search with the inclusion criteria for TARN case submission.
Provide training and ongoing support in data entry to other staff.
Responsibility for the day to day management of the TARN Assistant including annual appraisals.

Enter complex clinical data from casualty cards, patient notes and hospital systems (Evolve, PACS, PAS, Blue spier) onto the TARN on-line database seeking clinical advice where necessary.
