We are looking for a
Student Advisor.

The Opportunity:


A fantastic opportunity to support students to fully participate and succeed in their chosen programme of study, working closely with University academic and professional services staff and external agencies as required.


As a Student Advisor you will be the first contact point for UG and PGT (on-campus and online) students within the Deanery of Biomedical Sciences, providing professional guidance and support, including additional assistance where needed, to navigate the University support systems.

Working closely with academic and professional services teams, the role will enable students to achieve their potential, as well as ensure parity of experience for all students.


Your skills and attributes for success:
We are looking for individuals who like working in a vibrant environment.

  • Educated to HND level, or equivalent related experience (previous relevant work experience, or broad experience).
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to the complex areas of student support.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills ability to remain calm and centre the needs of the student, being able to provide a safe and welcoming space for students.
  • Experience of working independently and as part of the team to prioritise workloads.
  • Active listening and excellent communication skills.

The DBMS Student Support Team is located within the Biomedical Teaching Organisation (BMTO). The BMTO plays a vital role in the administration, coordination and implementation of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. The BMTO is responsible for the BSc Medical Sciences programme and twelve BSc Biomedical Sciences Honours Programmes.


In addition the BMTO has responsibility for the large portfolio of on-campus and online MSc programmes run by Biomedical Sciences.

Current student population is approx. 1200 UG students, 150 PGT on-campus students and 350 PGT online students). Student Advisors will sit within the professional services team of BMTO (33 members of staff).


Biomedical Sciences is located across a number of sites: the Chancellor's Building and Queen's Medical Research Institute at Little France; the Medical School in Teviot Place; the Hugh Robson Building, George Square and No 1 George Square.

The Student Advisor posts will be located in the BMTO, Medical School, Teviot Place.
