Description
Aire House is an 8 bedded residential service in the heart of Harrogate.

Aire House provides assessment and support for adults living with a primary learning disability diagnosis but may present complex conditions.

Some of the people we support also have communication difficulties as well as a range of other disabilities such as autism or epilepsy.

Our service offers 24/7 specialist residential care which is designed to provide just the right level of support; we encourage individuals to develop the skills that they need to live as independently as possible.

We offer 1:1 staffing where required and have installed a nurse-call system in each room.

There are many educational and activity programmes to get involved in at Aire House. Activities include attending the local adult training centres.

Within the house we continually promote the development of social skills, independent living and personal responsibility.

We find that the people who live at Aire House are very proud of their home as they are directly involved in creating it.

Individuals get involved in daily duties such as cooking, doing laundry and cleaning, depending upon their ability.

Many enjoy the social occasions arranged by Aire House, such as: eating out, going shopping, going to music concerts, football or rugby matches, trips to theme parks, visits to the local Turkish spa baths and much, much more.

Approximately a two minute walk away there are local shops including a pharmacy, charity shops and small supermarket, as well as a large local park.

The main town of Harrogate is approximately one mile away.

Harrogate has a main college just outside of town and there are smaller learning centres in and around the local area.

As a senior support worker, you must be committed to providing a high level of person-centred support to the people we support and also the staff team.

You must have a shared, empowered and motivated vision to drive the service to strive for excellence.

You will be expected to provide support in a way that reflects the wishes and needs of the people you are supporting and listening to how people want their support and communicate that to the team and reflect this in support plans.

You will support people to maintain a home of their own and to lead rich and fulfilled lives as valued and contributing members of their community.

You will be expected to comply with all regulation as defined in policies, in supervisions and in training sessions.

You will also be expected to attend supervisions, team meetings and training and ensure that you provide good communication to your manager and colleagues.

You should have initiative and motivation to work alone, as well as part of an established team.

You must be able to relate to people; be a good listener and communicator.

It is not necessary to have experience of working with people with a learning disability although this would be an advantage.

However, you must demonstrate an understanding of the issues faced by people with learning disabilities and an enthusiasm for working and supporting them to take control of their lives.
