Job Introduction:

The product ownership department acts as a conduit/channel that harmoniously coordinates other Handelsbanken plc specialists (e.g. product committee, compliance, risk, financial crime, finance etc.) and themselves to deliver high quality customer outcomes.

The department plays a vital role in the expansion of the UK product and service offering and is key to the expansion of our business in the UK.


Within the product ownership department the Payment & Card Operations department has responsibility for providing payment and transactional banking services to our UK Branches and all Handelsbanken Group offices.

The product range includes all UK clearing services, incoming and outgoing payments for both domestic and international transactions and card transactions.


The role of the Payment and Cards Operations Officer reports directly into the The Deputy Head of Payment and Card Operations or the Senior Operations Team Lead.

The role is to work within a team of Payment and Card Operations officers in order to ensure that all Handelsbanken customer payments are sent/received accurately and all payment queries are investigated thoroughly and timely.


Main Responsibility:


Team members are required to:

  • Work as part of the team to ensure the day to day activities and work flow are adequately prioritised to suit shifting demand
  • Work independently to carry out daily tasks, in accordance with relevant procedures and controls, to ensure payments are actioned correctly and branches supported with any payment related queries/recoveries and investigations
  • Work to tight deadlines whilst maintaining a high level of accuracy
  • Take responsibility to ensure all payment queries/exceptions and clearing differences are resolved as quickly as possible
  • Engage with relevant stakeholders, including branch staff, finance, risk, compliance and 3rd party payment providers in order to aid investigations
  • Record and update relevant, accurate and timely MI in the team work tracker as needed by the Head of Payment & Card Operations
  • Support with and carry out adhoc tasks, projects when required
  • When needed support the implementation of change to payment processes
  • Contribute the development and maintenance of Payment Operations procedures
  • Support and embed the Handelsbanken culture within the department
  • Operates in line with the Bank's Risk Management framework (including subframeworks) and relevant risk and compliance policies and procedures, ensuring appropriate and timely escalation of any concerns to their line manager.
The role is based at 101 Barbirolli Square in Manchester.

  • Previous banking and payment operations experience is essential.
  • An enthusiastic and dynamic selfstarter

  • Ability to thrive in a busy environment and work to tight deadlines
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage a number of tasks and display initiative
