Bodleian Libraries are seeking to appoint a Reader Services Librarian to join the Bodleian Library which is the largest and busiest of the Humanities Libraries and is made up of two iconic buildings: the Bodleian Old Library and Radcliffe Camera.


With oversight of the day-to-day operations of the Department you will work constructively and flexibly across the Bodleian site to deliver high-quality frontline services.

You will have considerable staff management responsibilities and will run the Bodleian Libraries' primary online and face-to-face enquiry service through the Main Enquiry Desk.

You will work to support the different needs of a diverse range of readers from different backgrounds.


You will be educated to degree level (or have equivalent experience) and you will have substantial experience of working in an academic library.

You will have experience of managing and motivating staff and have excellent communication skills.

With a demonstrable commitment to the innovative development of reader-oriented services you will have a sound understanding of equality and diversity issues.


Reader Services is currently going through organizational change as part of a review to provide more effective and efficient library user provision across the Bodleian Old Library and Radcliffe Camera.

This may result in reasonable amendments to the job description which will be made in consultation with the post holder.

This is a permanent, full-time post, working 37.5 hours per week.
