A proactive role model and senior member of the Institute of Care Excellence faculty, who leads on practice development for digital speciality and the professional development of nursing/midwifery staff across NUH to ensure the successful delivery of the N&M Strategy.

As a key leadership role within the Institute of Care Excellence, works to promote, establish and facilitate the delivery of the priority objectives of the Institute.


Provides leadership, advice and support, fostering a learning culture which values high quality patient care, evidence based practice, research and innovation.


Works in partnership with the Institute Clinical Leads/ Divisional senior nurses/ Matrons/ ward/department managers to ensure the delivery of the N&M Strategy and implementation of effective strategies to enhance staff satisfaction, staff engagement, improved staff retention and multi-disciplinary team working to achieve agreed, common goals/outcomes.

Ensures the highest standards of education, research, and clinical care are in place and in collaboration with the trust and divisional senior nursing team implements, maintains and evaluates systems and processes, which ensure standards, focussing on digitalisation.

Main duties of the job

Act as an expert professional resource for the multi-professional team, specialties, divisions and Trust.


Be a visible, accessible and assertive point of contact for staff, coordinating and leading on an agreed portfolio of responsibility within the Institute of Care Excellence.

Identify and lead audit projects as required. Ensure that audit recommendations are implemented where practicable.

Facilitate practice development and innovation to ensure practice meets external healthcare standards as required.


Be responsible for developing and ensuring effective communication between the wards/departments including Higher Education Institutes, Practice Learning Teams, Research and Innovation and other relevant stakeholders and educational providers.

Represent the Trust at local, regional and national level to disseminate developments in practice and develop clinical networks.


Ensure the delivery of care is in accordance with the policies, procedures, guidelines and practices of Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust and ensure all staff members are up to date with such procedures.

Lead the development of objectives and standards of clinical practice to support service aims.

Create a working climate, which encourages flexible team working amongst staff whilst allowing them the opportunity to show initiative.

Lead the development of an effective learning environment which is conducive to life-long learning for all staff.
