Job Description Summary:

This position will be part of the Finance team supporting the Cheltenham Power Distribution & Controls business within GE Aviation Systems.

The role would centre around the Commercial Finance function and front office FP&A areas of our business to drive profitable growth, manage risk and strong cash conversion.


You will be a key focal in providing the business with sound, commercial and compliant financial advice, as well as having a pivotal role in working with other finance areas to fully support the financial needs of the business.

You will embed tools digitally, be involved in long term planning, and contribute to the overall business strategy.


The role reports to the Finance Director, but works closely with the Sales, Commercial Operations, Product Leadership and Advanced Technology groups on a day-to-day basis.

You will take ownership of all new deal modelling and structuring, internal business plans, contract margin reviews, order intake and backlog analysis, as well as taking managing and reporting on our PBL contracts.


Roles and Responsibilities

  • Partnering with Product Line on PBL contracts to understand current and expected future performance
  • Partnering with the Sales, Commercial & Product Line teams to construct winning bid positions and models to bring profitable top line growth into the business
  • Identify key risks & opportunities, key assumptions, compliance oversight as well as risk management strategies for future business
  • Presentation of complex financial modelling data with recommendations to senior management for review and approval
  • Partner with Product and Technology teams to define investment strategies for future technologies and product roadmaps
  • Monitor key contracts in the execution phase to provide analysis of actual results against bid assumptions, being able to articulate opportunities for improvement and feedback of key learnings into future bid work
  • Partner with operating teams to forecast, manage, analyse and report the order intake and backlog results
  • Analysis and reporting of key leading and lagging indicators of our revenue including order book intake, order cover, sales arrears etc
  • Construction of ad hoc project appraisal & business cases (outside of bid work) and financial recommendations
  • Partnering with business teams to drive execution against those results and maximise returns
  • Lead the monthly closing process for PBL contracts, including any reporting and analysis to the business and to corporate teams
  • Presentation of results where required

Required Qualifications

  • Degree qualified or relevant work experience
  • Fully qualified professional accountant (CIMA/ACCA/ACA) with post qualification experience in a large company or equivalent expertise through relevant work experience
  • Strong/Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Experience working in a large corporate environment
  • Be able to demonstrate a high level of financial and business acumen

Desired Characteristics

  • Commercial Finance experience / ability to scrutinise business cases from a financial perspective and pull out key insights and recommendations
  • Experienced in managing or influencing teams/individuals
  • Selfstarter who can demonstrate the ability to work as part of a team and on their own initiative.
  • Positive "cando" approach
  • Ability to recognise the need for, and drive, process improvements and efficiencies
  • Understanding of key Accounting standards (IFRS and US GAAP depending upon role) or demonstrable ability to learn new ones where required
  • Experience working in a manufacturing and/or engineering environment preferred
  • Able to speak and write in English language
