Our Energy Sector supports energy transition through existing asset efficiency and life extension, whilst we lead the decarbonisation of the UK's energy infrastructure.

Covering the full project lifecycle from Feasibility through to Decommissioning, we are looking for Principal Piping Engineer with experience in the Oil & Gas; Nuclear; Power Generation and Gas Networks Sectors.


As Principal Piping Engineer you will be leading the Piping Discipline Engineering and Design effort across a range of diverse projects.

Costain is positioning itself to become a key player in the transition to green and sustainable energy solutions.

Our new projects include Carbon Capture and Hydrogen Generation, Storage and Distribution from Concept, FEED, Detail Design, Construction and Commissioning.

This is an exciting and rewarding position to become part of Costain's innovative leading-edge team delivering high value efficient solutions to our varied clients

Responsible for the technical content and delivery of Piping deliverables on any given project.

Responsible for the checking and approval of design work in accordance with Company Procedures.


To plan for adequate resources and to monitor and report design progress in line with the project schedule (SPI) and hours spent against earned value (CPI).

To liaise and coordinate with other disciplines as required.


To cascade information to individuals on organisational performance, policy, and procedures and to report back to the Discipline manger comments and recommendations for continuous improvements in performance and removal of constraints.

To offer advice and support to colleagues and subordinates on personal and career development.

Provide training, information, or instruction and to give feedback. To set objectives, to assist colleagues and subordinates in achieving objectives.


To be aware of legal and organisational responsibilities regarding Health, Safety Sustainability and Environmental issues with respect to employees, contractors, clients and third parties, ensuring that activities are all managed in accordance with Company policy and client requirements.

About You

A degree, HNC, HND or equivalent qualification in Engineering.
Chartered Engineer and/or 10 years' experience in this specialist discipline.

Significant Piping Engineering experience within the Oil & Gas, Nuclear and Energy sectors

Extensive knowledge of Major Design Codes Including ASME B31.3/B31.1 and UK legislation and standards

Competent in the requirements for Pipe Stress Analysis using CAESAR II software

Working knowledge and experience in AVEVA E3D design software.

Competence in the requirements for CDM Principal Designer roles and duties

Experience in the requirements for CA marking of plant and equipment.

Awareness of risk identification, quantification, management and of HSE requirements
