Base Location:

Flexible UK | We're proud to offer a Flexible First approach to work, and this role is no exception.

We will, however need your base 'home' location to be one of our SSE offices or depots around the UK.


Salary:
£51,600 - £77,400 + car / car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The purpose of this job is to provide HVDC and Power Systems Expertise to offer technical solutions associated with SSE Group's entry into Interconnector markets (standard and multi-purpose).

The technology would consequently encompass both HVDC and AC transmission both on land and at sea.

The knowledge and credibility of the Power Systems Specialist will be key for the SSE Interconnector team to validate and develop solutions for the Interconnector (IC) and Multipurpose Interconnectors (MPI) market.

This is a specialist role that is essential to position SSE in the MPI/IC market.

The role will directly contribute to the development of technical solutions to support the growth of the SSE interconnection business.


The key responsibilities of this role will be:

  • Leading and/or undertaking high level electric power systems modelling and analysis to support investment decisions for Interconnectors or Multi-Purpose Interconnectors.
  • Leading and/or undertaking power systems studies, modelling and analysis during the project development stages. Also, providing support in the tendering process to get EPC/EPCI on board.
  • Reviewing and working along with the owners' engineers and external consultants to monitor the quality of the design and construction during the construction and commissioning stages of projects.

What do I need?
To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

  • A good understanding of energy sector, the key markets within it and how these are likely to change over time.
  • A good understanding of key power infrastructure and associated technologies such as power generation, transmission, distribution, and storage.
  • A strong understanding of power transmission with indepth experience of one or more of HVDC connections, interconnectors and OFTOs.
  • Experience in the field of power systems, ideally experience of HVDC transmission systems.
  • A good understanding of the latest HVDC technologies and protection systems.
  • Experience of developing power systems models for Interconnectors.
