The Opportunity:

As an Engineering Technician (Design) apprentice this programme forms part of your companies succession planning for the future. You will be trained, supported and monitored throughout the process


Throughout the duration of the apprenticeship you will be paid and day released to PETA's Havant engineering skills center for off-the-job training.

You will learn how to work safely, work efficiently, use technical information, how to conduct business improvement activities, use Computer Aided Design software, general machining, fitting tecniques, how to maintain mechanical and electrical equipment, how to assemble and test electronic circuits as well as general welding techniques

Your Level 3 programme will include, day release for 24 months to complete a level 3 Btec technical certificate. You will also complete a level 3 Engineering workbased qualification delivered by PETA.

Your desire to continue further education going on to an HNC/HND or ideally Degree level in the specialised field of Design is a key characteristic for the type of Apprentice we wish to employee to set the foundation for a long term career and future with the Company

About the Role:


Joining the WASP team as an Engineering Technician (Design) apprentice, your role will be focused on learning to produce a range of technical information including CAD drawings, as well as supporting projects through the design/development phase to pre-production prototyping and undertaking testing.

Creating accurate data is important in this role.

As part of your programme, you will learn how to:


  • Communicate with the design and certification teams to obtain the relevant information
  • Design printed circuit boards and assemblies
  • Test and fault find prototype designs
  • Learn how to create schedules and bills of materials
  • Follow process, procedures and specifications.
  • Identify cost effective interventions and improvements


Learn how to provide technical support to internal and external customers***
Essential Criteria:To be considered for the role of Engineering Technician (Design) apprentice, you will have a keen eye for detail and take pride in completing work to a high quality level.

You will also require the following skills and qualifications:

  • 2 GCSE's at grade C or above in Maths and English are essential
  • Your motivation, drive and focus are the assets that will be best appreciated
  • You will possess good communication skills
  • Be able to prioritise and work to deadlines
  • Be able to use your initiative
Have good numerical, logical, organisational and analytical skills***
Desirable Criteria:
  • You will be IT literate
  • You will be ojective, using factual information and data to make decsions
  • You will be organised and work in a tidy, professional manner
  • Have an excellent attention to detail
  • Your logical approach to problem solving will enable you to perform to make a good contribution to all aspects of the job
You will possess good interpersonal and written writing skills
