Hours: 40 hours/week, primarily 7am-3pm including regular weekends and occasional evenings.

Raby Estates are about to launch the most beautiful dining destination, set in a stunning new glasshouse, surrounded by acres of parkland.

The Vinery and accompanying event spaces, part of The Rising development, will deliver a unique experience for diners visiting the historic setting of Raby Castle, Park, and Gardens.

The Vinery café restaurant is at the centre of this exceptional new development called The Rising. This new tourism destination seeks to exceed all expectations and to deliver a visitor experience which is unrivalled.


The successful applicant will become the Baker who showcases a fantastic selection of artisan breads and cakes to delight hundreds of visitors to Raby Castle Park and Gardens every day.


This role has the benefit of primarily daytime hours however weekends and school holidays are essential dates and applicants must be happy to work these on a regular basis.

Baker/Pastry Chef Responsibilities

  • Preparation and baking of various breads, cakes, and pastry items according to Raby Estate business needs under the guidance of Estate Chef.
  • Ensure the cleanliness and organisation of the baking areas adhering to hygiene and safety practices.
  • Assist in driving processes of excellence for the department.
  • Assist in the handling/ storage of ingredients, creating and following recipes of recipes accurately.
  • Actively engage in learning opportunities to improve baking and pastry making skills.
  • Help in conducting quality checks on ingredients and finishing products to ensure consistency and excellence
  • Comply fully to food safety and health and safety Compliance procedures.

Skills Requirements.

  • Relevant culinary qualifications such as NVQ Level 2 in baking, showcasing foundational knowledge and skills.
  • Experience in a bakery role, ideally with a good grounding knowledge of sourdough and Viennoiserie,
  • A keen desire to develop baking and pastry skills, showing enthusiasm for learning new techniques and recipes.
  • Experience in a commercial kitchen, demonstrating professional kitchen operations.
  • Awareness of food safety and hygiene practices, with a willingness to learn and adhere to industry standards.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of kitchen team, demonstrating good communication skills and collaborative spirit.
  • Willingness to adapt to different tasks and schedules, responsive to changing needs in the kitchen environment.
  • A kind and caring attitude towards your colleagues and customers.
