An opportunity has arisen to work in this key specialised statutory position within Electoral Services.


You will be working in a small, friendly supportive team where the results of your work have an impact on the reputation and public perception of the council.

This is a varied, fulfilling role where you will be the systems administrator for the Election Management System (EMS).

You will contribute to the delivery of elections, referenda and the canvass in Bristol by organising and delivering work packages to include exporting and checking data, proofing and liaising with our print and EMS suppliers.


You will be required to clearly communicate key election and canvass messages to the public via our web site, through the Customer Service Centre and appropriate communication channels.


Additionally you will lead on the compilation, publication, and distribution of the Register of Electors in Bristol and monthly updates.


The role involves identifying and assessing key work packages to plan and prioritise whilst continuously improving processes and ensuring that everything is delivered to a high standard.

This is achieved whilst meeting the immoveable deadlines of the election and annual canvass.


Ideally you will be a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual with great attention to detail; be able to work under pressure to produce work of a high standard.

Being able to communicate complex requirements to various stakeholders and a small team of casual staff is essential.

The role is politically restricted, has periods of paid contractual overtime and periods when flexitime is suspended. See the special conditions document for further details.

This role is politically restricted in accordance with the Local Government and Housing Act 1989. This means that you are prevented from having any active political role either in or outside the workplace.

Politically restricted employees are disqualified from standing for or holding elected office, and these restrictions are incorporated as terms in an employee's contract of employment under s.3 Local Government Officers (Political Restrictions) Regulations 1990.
