Job summary


Working on behalf of the Chief Nursing and Clinical Governance Team, the post holder will develop and monitor the Coventry and Rugby GP Alliances clinical assurance framework, supporting and embedding a proactive approach to quality risk management, safety and quality and ensuring that appropriate and effective work programmes, policies, procedures, systems, training and reporting are in place, in order to deliver the Care Quality Commission Fundamental Standards of Quality and Safety, and evidence-based standards.


Main duties of the job


The post holder will also have direct responsibility for Patient Safety, working closely with the Chief Nursing Officer and Medical Directorate, taking the lead on Datix incident reporting and escalation.

The post holder is required to work independently and autonomously. Direction, advice and guidance will be provided by the Chief Nursing Officer and Medical Directorate.


The post holder will support the development of systems and processes to ensure the effective management of risks at both a local and organisation level.

This will include direct support to the risk assessment and management process.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES_

  • Develops and delivers the Coventry and Rugby GP Alliance Clinical Assurance Framework which reflects national standards and local requirements.
  • Lead patient safety improvement activity and ensure that systems thinking, human factors understanding and just culture principles are embedded in all patient safety processes. They will promote patient safety thinking beyond why things go wrong in healthcare (Safety I), to examining why things routinely go right and how that can be maximised (Safety II). They will support their organisations patient safety partners (patient and public representatives specifically involved in patient safety) as identified in the NHS Patient Safety Strategy.
  • Take a leading role in ensuring awareness of the Care Quality Commission Fundamental Standards of Quality and Safety at an operational level.
  • To identify and lead on development and implementation of systems and processes to support the governance agenda.
  • To facilitate, support and coordinate a rolling programme of governance projects, evidencebased practice audits based on organisational policies and service specific requirements.
  • Take ownership of risk management and coordination of the clinical and team risk registers, ensuring updates from services are appropriate and meeting the requirements of the identified risk.
  • To oversee the complaints process to ensure complaints are managed according to organisational policy and to provide support to investigating officers as required.
  • Take a leading role with the identification and analysing of any emerging themes from available data. This includes, producing reports and analysing trends, concerns and identifying any actions and recommendations to the Chief Nursing & Clinical Service Delivery Officer.
  • Proactively identify, promote and where appropriate, lead on service improvement ideas by sharing examples of good practice across all relevant teams within the Organisation. These may be from internal or external sources.
  • Use their clinical acumen and knowledge to inform reporting and escalation as required.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES_

  • To provide a highly visible presence across the service areas, building rapport with individuals and teams, actively seeking opportunities to disseminate the knowledge gained through safety and quality processes and information analysis.
  • To be responsible for the development and robust monitoring of progress on all Datix action plans, producing trend analysis, appropriate reports and information. This will involve high levels of diplomacy and matrix working, alongside a data analyst team.
  • To provide Board and formal Committee level support to the Safety and Quality Committee developing structured papers for approval by the Chair and providing board level papers to provide assurance.
  • To lead and manage specific projects as identified by the Chief Nursing Officer, Medical Directorate, and associated Board and Committee Members which further develop the governance agenda.
  • To support the Policy and processes and subsequent review by ensuring policies are updated in line with organisational requirements, supporting the development of policies with policy authors and ensuring the correct process is followed for both consultation of policies and for availability of approved policies, and systems are updated as appropriate.
