A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a band 2 Healthcare Assistant to join our established team in our new cancer centre at Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.


The Cancer Centre team aspire to provide exceptional care for the public of Milton Keynes and as such we are looking for a passionate Healthcare Assistant to assist us to achieve our aspirations.

This rapidly expanding modern and busy unit offers many training opportunities for their staff, recent developments have led to the opening of our cancer centre in February 2020.

This developing service is supported by a forward thinking & supportive Management Team, Nurse Practitioners, Palliative Care Team & Macmillan Information and Support Centre.


We firmly believe in holistic care, with a newly established wellbeing team to enhance the recovery package for patients living with and beyond cancer.

We have Citizen Advice Bureau onsite and offer a wide range of carers and patient support groups.

The role of the HCA is to assist the nursing team in the delivery of safe effective care to the patient.


Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, in partnership with the University of Buckingham, is a University Teaching Hospital; we conduct research and teaching on site to improve the care to our patients.

Communication and relationship skills

  • Communicate information to patients regarding their condition within your clinical remit. Patients may have barriers to understanding such as a physical or mental disability, including dementia and so information will need to be delivered with tact, empathy and sensitivity.
  • You may need to use to persuasive skills to encourage patients to engage and undertake activities of daily living.
Analytical skills

  • Aim to improve the effectiveness of care, improve quality of care and patient quality of life experience.
Planning and organisation skills

  • To have knowledge of basic clinical observations and an understanding of the correct escalation process, making judgements on when to report patient conditions to a senior member of the team.
  • To organise own daily workload, adjusting and prioritising appropriately as the ward actively dictates
Responsibility - patient/client care

  • To assist all team members as required in the direct delivery of patient care.
  • Undertake personal care duties for patients including bathing and feeding.
  • To ensure the safeguarding of patients by working within Trust policies and procedures and reporting any concerns or issues raised to the nurse in charge.
