ROLE DESCRIPTION

Area of work:
Volunteer Administration - Main Office.

Responsible to:
Justin McCarthy - Volunteer Manager.


BACKGROUND

The provision of Specialist Palliative Care services to people in the area of Blaenau Gwent, delivering free, high quality care for patients suffering from life-limiting illness and comprehensive support for their families from diagnosis, through treatment and if appropriate into end of life care and bereavement.

Volunteers are integral to the care offered at the hospice. They allow for trained staff to focus on and deliver care to the highest standard possible.

A volunteer may be the first person a patient will meet and this will influence their response to being in the Hospice and to the care on offer.


MAIN DUTIES
Volunteer Admin are required to work in the Hospice Office and help with general office duties.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Data Input (Basic Computer Skills Required)
  • Answering the telephone, directing calls to the relevant person and taking messages when necessary.
  • Photocopying
  • Shredding documents
  • Laminating
  • Mailings
  • Other duties as they arise following agreement between Volunteer Manager and the Volunteer

Hours of Work

We have 2 vacancies:
Any hours between Monday to Friday 9:15am to 4.30pm


The following skills are essential:


  • Friendly and approachable
  • Good time keeping
  • Basic computer skills
  • Previous office experience would be an advantage
  • Willing to learn new skills and assist in the smooth running of the office
  • Able to use initiative and work independently
  • Accepting of others who might be different to yourself
  • Willing to work within guidelines and to take direction where necessary
  • Ability to maintain regular clear communication with the Volunteer Manager and Hospice staff

Policies and Procedures
All new volunteers are given a short induction which includes confidentiality policies, evacuation procedures and health and hygiene
(safety at work).


Confidentiality
The post holder must maintain the confidentiality of information about patients, staff and other health service business in accordance with the draft Code of Confidentiality and the Data Protection Act


Health and Safety

Volunteers must be aware of the responsibilities placed on them under the Health and Safety at Work Act (1974), to ensure that the agreed safety procedures are carried out to maintain a safe environment for employees and visitors.
