Weekend Assistant Librarian

5 x Permanent - Part Time Contract

Scale 5: Starting salary £31,716 pro rata, pa rising in annual increment to £33,204 per annum incl LW various hours available: 3.5 or 4 hours on Saturdays, or 7.5 working on both Saturday and Sunday.

As an Assistant Librarian, your role involves assisting library users of all ages, organizing events, handling inquiries, utilizing IT, and maintaining the library's orderliness.

As a key team member, you will oversee the library operations, including opening and closing, supervising staff, and ensuring smooth service delivery. Previous experience in a library or similar setting is essential.

About the Team:

Lambeth Libraries consist of ten branches serving a diverse population. Our dedicated staff are committed to promoting reading, digital literacy, and skills development through various events and activities with a focus on continuous learning and career advancement.

About the Role:

This weekend part-time role offers opportunities across different libraries with varying hours:

  • 3.5 hours a week on Saturdays
  • 4 hours a week on Sundays
  • 7.5 or 8.5 hours a week working on both weekend days.

Weekends are peak times at our libraries, where you will assist customers, supervise staff, and facilitate community engagement through activities like storytelling sessions or coding clubs.

  • Strong literacy and numeracy skills
  • Effective communication and customer care abilities
  • Knowledge of books and authors to recommend suitable reading material
  • IT proficiency for online information retrieval
