Oxfordshire County Council have an opportunity for an experienced
Democratic Services Manager to join our team. You will be working on a
full time, permanent basis (37hours per week) and in return, you will receive a competitive salary of
£57,857 - £60,975 per annum.

About the Democratic Services Manager role:

Reporting to the Head of Governance, our new
Democratic Services Manager will manage and lead a team of support officers and the running of its varied functions.

The role requires first-rate interpersonal skills and experience in dealingwith sensitive political issues involving Elected Members, Senior Officers and a range of other stakeholders.


The Democratic Services Manager will be a trusted advisor, providing advice on matters relating to the Council's constitution, governance arrangements and meeting procedures.

The role will manage competing demands and the post holder must be able to makesound judgements when dealing with member requests and prioritising activities whilst ensuring compliance with Council procedures and legislative provisions.


What we are looking for in our ideal Democratic Services Manager:

  • Relevant degree and/or evidence of extensive equivalent experience in a local government setting
  • Experience of managing, developing and leading a team
  • Understanding of the functions of local government, committee procedures, relevant legislation and the roles of Officers and Members
  • A clear understanding of administrative, governance and constitutional processes
  • Experience of constitutional process and protocols (including agenda setting and publication, accurate recording of debate and dissemination of information).
  • Experience of working closely with elected members and chief officers
