A full time, permanent job opening has arisen for an Assistant Deputy Manager to work in one of the UK's leading private healthcare organisations to support the Management and provide leadership to the Specimen Reception Team during the night shift.


The main duties are to ensure the department is resourced appropriately at all times and reviewed in line with changing workloads and report issues back to the reception manager.

To support the management of the entry and transit of samples at the laboratoryand to ensure safe onward delivery to relevant laboratory departments.

To have a comprehensive understanding of the different sample requirements as well as any special handling required.


Other duties include:


  • Work closely with the Night SRA team and Deputy Day Manager to ensure a seamless transition from day to night operations
  • Assists with providing direction and support for the specimen reception Team and will act as a role model.
  • Ensure that any service failures or issues are brought to the attention of the sample reception manager
  • Report to the Deputy Manager the progress of the training and continuing professional development of staff in the area
  • Participate, as required, in a daily debrief with the Night SRA Manager to update on any issues or changes
- become familiar with the operation of the tracking system within Sample Reception and ensure learning is cascaded throughout the team

  • Ensure any track issues are logged and reported to the appropriate team
  • Support and participate in Quality Management as directed i.e. facilitating audits, leading quality initiatives, maintaining area in line with UKAS requirements.
  • Assist in the recruitment and appointment of staff for the SRA department


  • Strong managerial background

  • Experience in managing teams, including setting priorities and addressing performance issues
  • Be extremely organised.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office packages
  • Able to work autonomously in a busy and pressurised environment
  • Able to analyse, prioritise and problem solve
  • Having MLA experience is a
    bonus but
    not essential.
