POST TITLE:
Marketing & Community Engagement Officer


DEPARTMENT:
Office


HOURS:30 hours per week including, if necessary, participation in community-based events for which time off in lieu would be applicable.


PURPOSE OF JOB:
To support the Town Council with external communication of council business, the marketing of Council-owned facilities (room hire) and services, the
Civic Centre's events programme and Luxfords restaurant, and to support the delivery of the Town Council's community activities

REPORTS TO:

JOB SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Town Clerk, this role will be responsible for delivering the Town
Council's external communications with local residents and visitors to the town across a range of channels from digital to paper, press and events - proactive and reactive;
The role will be responsible for working with senior officers in particular the
Hospitality Manager, to develop marketing plans for the Town Council's facilities
(room hire), Civic Centre events programme and Luxfords Restaurant, and support the team with delivery of planned marketing;
The role will support the Town Clerk, with delivery of community engagement activities, key forums and events.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


Public relations

  • Prepare press releases and press statements for approval by Management
Team in response to issues relating to Uckfield Town and Town Council business, as well as sharing good news stories;

  • Maintain the Town Council and Civic Centre websites and work with office staff to ensure the content is up to date and reflects current priorities and news items;
  • Maintain the Town Council, Civic Centre and Luxfords Restaurant social media accounts (Facebook); ensuring that key events are advertised, important information is shared and key messages are effectively communicated;
  • Prepare the monthly edition of the Voice ( _the Town Council's section in the _
  • Uckfield Matters Residents' magazine)_ in association with the input of the
Voice Editorial Panel;

  • To handle and respond to all invitations received for the Town Crier, and manage their annual calendar of cries;
  • Maintain a record of the Town Crier's attendance at events and communications (cries), to be published on the Civic Centre's noticeboard and Town Council's website;

Marketing

  • Work with the Hospitality Manager to promote the annual calendar of events and entertainment held within the Weald Hall (Civic Centre) and/or Luxfords
Restaurant;

  • Manage and maintain mailing lists for customers attending events, and utilise this information for the purpose of producing a monthly e-bulletin focused on the Civic Centre's events programme as well as promoting special offers or activities;
  • Using software such as Adobe InDesign prepare adverts promoting the events programme in the Civic Centre and Luxfords Restaurant for parish newsletters, the town's residents' magazine and any online or paid publications;
  • Collate qualitative and quantitative data such as Google Analytics4 data, social media insights, attendance stats and e-bulletin stats to create a marketing update report for members of Environment & Leisure Committee on a six weekly basis;
  • Work with the Hospitality Manager and Town Clerk to develop marketing plans for the Town Council's facilities (room hire), the Civic Centre's events programme and Luxfords restaurant, strengthen their brand and increase our online presence;
  • Ensure the Town Council and Civic Centre websites are up to date, photos are refreshed and new media formats and enhancements are explored;
  • Support the Hospitality Manager with delivery of marketing campaigns directed towards local businesses in order to engage and attract potential customers within the local area on a periodic basis to advertise the facilities available at the Civic Centre, Uckfield and special offers available;

Community engagement

  • Provide administrative support to the Uckfield Dementia Forum, liaising with the Chair and Vice-Chair in the lead up to quarterly meetings;
  • Liaise with Uckfield Dementia Forum members and take an active role in activities which enable Uckfield to work towards becoming a dementia friendly and inclusive community;
  • Support the Town Council with the planning and preparation of key community events including activities such as beacon lightings, the annual day festival - Weald on the Field and the annual remembrance service;
  • Support management team with the preparation for consultation exercises or community engagement activities to engage local residents in key projects, such as play area upgrades and neighbourhood planning;

Other

  • Under the health and safety guidelines issued by the Town Council, ensure the safety and well-being of all who visit or work in the facilities provided by the Council.
  • Adhere at all time to the policies
