Description
About Resurrect Bio
Resurrect Bio is a plant biotech start-up based in central London, and a spin-out of the top research institute The Sainsbury Laboratory, Norwich.
We do this by finding out how pathogens overcome the immune system of the plant, and then figure out how to use gene editing to make it resistant again - in other words, we Resurrect the defeated immune system of crops.
What?
We are recruiting for a full-time Lead Computational Biologist to work on Machine Learning, Bioinformatics, protein structure and protein-ligand interaction prediction, and helping automate wet lab workflows, i.e.
controlling robots (no wet lab experience required).Where?:
- Hybrid position, or full time in White City in West London (your choice)
- Lab space is brand new (currently being built) and part of a building full of exciting startups and amazing people
When?
Starting between late February and late April 2023.
How long?
The post is a "permanent" position but there will be a 6 month probationary period.
Role & Responsibilities:
- Overall to work as part of a team to carry out our product discovery: using our proprietary discovery pipeline to finding how pathogens overcome the immune system of important crop plants, and discovering ways to use gene editing to improve the plant immune system
- Develop your own machine learning tools and other proprietary computational tools for speeding up our plant disease resistance gene discovery and resurrection pipeline
- To work with others to automate our wet lab workflow
- Occasionally trying out some wet lab work to test some of your tools and workflows
- To assist the wet lab team by designing DNA constructs for gene synthesis/cloning
- Product testing (testing if the changes we make to key proteins in the immune system of crops will lead to resistance to disease)
- Planning and designing experiments
- Assisting with data analysis, presentation and interpretation
- Working 35 hours a week, usually 5 days per week
- Guiding other team members
Opportunities:
- To be part of an innovative team tackling one of the word's biggest problems and to make a real world impact on the life of farmers across the world
