Description

This is a brilliant opportunity for a recent biochemical or bio-engineering graduate with a strong technical background in synthetic biology/strain engineering to branch out into a dual facing role with a technical element and project management-based roleas part of our clients development team.

The role is in support of the development of new polymer materials, providing both technical input to the team and contributing to the overall project management.

Responsible for maintaining a positive relationshipwith key stakeholders both within and outside the company in order to deliver & report development and testing activities for multiple projects OTIF and on budget.


Responsibilities:


  • Plan experiments to be conducted for the week (in agreement with line manager), ensuring all reagents and equipment are available for performing experimental work
  • Monitoring quantity of reagents within the lab for experiments. Take note of low supplies of a material/reagent and liaison with operations team to replenish.
  • Detailed record keeping of reaction conditions, notable state/colour changes, regular monitoring of acid/OH value measurements.
  • Engage with other researchers (Postdocs, PhD students) regarding equipment booking and status of analytical equipment, to keep updated on any changes/problems
  • Evaluation of fermentation method/strain development based on analytical results. Data will inform decision making on best formulation, discussion with line manager/academic lead on best solutions for what to scale up.


  • Cleaning/tidying

  • Glassware, make sure workspace/fume hood is tidy, disposal of polymer/solvent/chemicals in appropriate locations
  • Establish clear communication channels with other teams within the projects & Schedule biweekly/monthly update meetings with project partners
  • Regular reporting to IUK Monitoring Officer any developments/updates on the project that may be relevant
  • IUK project document updating (to be sent to IUK MO and all project partners at least 2 working days before the meeting).
  • Project finances. An excel sheeting with different tabs for each cost type is prepared and should be in regular use.
  • Create a work environment where people are treated with respect, acknowledged for their achievements, and given the opportunities to develop in line with the needs of the business.

About You:


  • Relevant scientific qualifications with appropriate scientific experience
  • Previous relevant experience in a bioscience/ biomaterials development/R&D environment is desirable.
  • Good knowledge of biochemistry and strain engineering.
  • Working knowledge of testing equipment.
  • Understanding of basic statistics and the ability to interpret data and make decisions.
  • Computer literate, familiar with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • To work efficiently under pressure, using own initiative and discretion.
  • To possess good communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
