Description
Are you a person who's passionate about payroll, loves getting things right and digging into the detail, but also loves to improve processes and use your own initiative?

Do you love the idea of working for a small, lively accountancy practice that supports a wide range of customers?

Are you looking for a new opportunity that allows you to grow and thrive?

Then you might be just the person for us

You'll need to be interested in becoming part of a small but busy, growing company and keen to play your part in helping it to grow more.

We're looking for a practical, conscientious hard-working payroll whiz to help us streamline our service and support more customers.

We're not typical, stuffy, box-ticking accountants, so we're not looking for run-of-the-mill staff who just want to blend into the background.

We don't mind if you're an introvert or an extrovert as long as you're someone who works well with a team and mucks in when things get busy.

The majority of your role will be managing our payroll, but we're a small team so you'll need to be happy to get involved in different things when the need arises.

We're sticklers for detail and for doing a great job so a high degree of accuracy is essential. It's important that you're passionate about the standards of your work.

You should be willing and able to follow existing procedures and routines to the letter but also have the initiative to make your own decisions when necessary.

We'll provide training, supervision and support to help you become fully acquainted with our processes and to improve your skills where needed.

Skills / Experience:

  • Ideally 2+ years of payroll experience using either Sage, Iris or Brightpay. The more variety of customers the better
  • Experience of both processing payroll and handling customer queries
  • You don't need to have payroll qualifications as long as you have suitable experience (although we would happily support you to become qualified if you would like to)
  • A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs is essential (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Up to date knowledge of PAYE rules and Auto enrolment pension regulations
  • Confidence to discuss PAYE queries with HMRC
  • Knowledge of cloud accounting software such as Xero or QuickBooks would be a bonus but is not essential

About You:

  • Comfortable with tech
  • Loves finding out about new things and picks up new knowledge quickly
  • Proactive about handling your own workload, a natural planner who encourages customers to respect deadlines
  • You have initiative and common sense (which we know is not that common)
  • Likes working as part of a team who support each other and care about doing a great job

About Us:

  • We're a busy practice with an excellent local reputation
  • We really care about our customers and about giving them the best service we can
  • Our mission is for our team to feel valued, respected and appreciated and to enjoy working here
  • We hold regular team development days and support training if requested (but we don't insist on it)
  • No 2 days are ever the same

the role is available full or part-time (minimum 25 hours per week) although a full time role (37.5 hours) would mean more direct involvement in general accountancy work, not just payroll.
