An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Tobacco Dependency Treatment Practitioner to join the newly formed Tobacco Dependency Treatment Service, for patients with Severe Mental Illness (SMI) admitted to hospital or receiving support in community mental health services at Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMMH).
Tobacco Dependency Treatment Practitioners will be integral members of the Tobacco Dependency Treatment Service.
Tobacco addiction is a chronic relapsing disease and the single biggest cause of preventable death, disability, illness and social inequality.
People with a mental health condition have higher mortality rates compared to the general population and smoking is the single largest contributor to their 10-20-year reduced life expectancy.
GMMH has been selected as an Early Implementer Site for the CURE model of treating tobacco dependence, which is a proven, evidence-based intervention providing access to smoking cessation treatments alongside specialist support, at the time of hospital admission.
This role will be diverse with opportunity to visit sites across the GMMH footprint to deliver smoking cessation interventions, deliver training, and support the Trust to adopt the CURE model.
Tobacco Dependency Treatment Practitioners will make a valuable contribution to improving health and reducing health inequality amongst people with SMI.
- Promotes, supports, and implements the GMMH Smoke Free Policy across GMMH including all aspects of tobacco dependence and treatment, prevention and management.
- Responsible for managing a caseload of patients and providing treatment and support.
- Provide leadership and line management support to the Tobacco Dependency Treatment Advisors.
- Responsible for development and delivery of tobacco dependent treatment training to staff, service users and carers.
- Proactively support culture change and the promotion of a smoke free environment.
