About the Role

Base Location:

Flexible UK and Ireland | We're proud to offer a Flexible First approach to work, and this role is no exception.

We will, however need your base 'home' location to be one of our SSE offices or depots around the UK and Ireland.


Salary:
£37,600 to £56,400 (dependant on experience) + car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, and wellbeing.


Working Pattern:
Permanent | Full Time | Flexible First options available.


As an Environmental Specialist, you will be responsible for providing technical environmental expertise to our Thermal business supporting the successful delivery of the Net Zero Acceleration Programme, driving environmental performance and delivering sustainable outcomes to meet targets.


This includes providing support to the business for:

understanding environmental risks and opportunities, monitoring and assessing environmental impacts and performance, supporting delivery of environmental permitting & planning, delivery of environmental assurance processes and improvement programmes to address short, medium and long-term priorities.


You will support operational sites and development / construction projects across the UK and Republic of Ireland, working with key stakeholders including; Thermal Development, Thermal Construction, Site Operational Teams and Contractor Management Teams.


Key areas of responsibility include:

  • Drive delivery of environment / sustainability plans.
  • Environmental systems, procedures and assurance processes.
  • Specialist compliance support linked with environmentally permitted / licenced sites.
  • Coordinate and enhance environmental data management and sustainability metrics.

What do I need?
To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

  • Graduate or Postgraduate degree in Environmental Management / Environmental Science / Chemistry or hold a scientific, environmental, engineering qualification or sufficient relevant industry experience.
  • Member of IEMA or equivalent professional body (or desire to work towards).
  • Previous experience of working at or supporting sites regulated by environmental permits / licences, greenhouse gas emission trading schemes and/or COMAH establishments.
  • Communication and influencing skills ability to use a range of techniques to affect change.
