Head of SEND Assessments

Permanent - Full Time


We are dedicated to fostering an inclusive community, ensuring every child and young person has access to the best possible education.

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) Assessments to lead our team.

This role is pivotal in supporting our commitment to the SEND Code of Practice and ensuring that children and young people with SEND achieve their full potential.


The Role:

As the Head of SEND Assessments, you will play a critical leadership role in managing the SEND assessment process, ensuring compliance with the statutory framework


Your responsibilities will include:

  • Overseeing the endtoend process of Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) assessments, ensuring they are completed within the statutory 20week deadline.
  • Implementing a robust quality assurance process to ensure the highest standards in all statutory assessments and the accuracy of written EHCPs.
  • Providing leadership and management to a team of SEND professionals, ensuring staff development and performance align with departmental goals.
  • Collaborating with schools, health services, and other stakeholders to promote a cohesive approach to SEND provision.
  • Ensuring adherence to the SEND Code of Practice, updating practices in line with legislative changes.
  • Monitoring and reporting on key performance indicators related to SEND assessments.

Key Requirements:


  • Significant experience in managing staff within an educational or local government setting, particularly in the area of SEND.
  • Proven track record in meeting statutory deadlines, particularly the 20week EHCP assessment period.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and develop staff.
  • Experience in implementing and overseeing quality assurance processes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with various stakeholders.
  • A relevant professional qualification in education, social work, or a related field.
