An opportunity has arisen for a Maternity Support Workers to join our Women and Children's division at North Bristol NHS Trust, working in the Fetal Medicine Unit and the Antenatal Clinic.
As a Maternity Support Worker within our supportive multidisciplinary team, you will play an integral role in providing high quality care during pregnancy, birth and early post-natal days.

There is an exciting opportunity to join either the outpatient antenatal team at Southmead Hospital, working Monday to Friday during office hours, or the Community Midwifery service working office hours between Monday
- Sunday.
Your key duties will include:
Supporting new parents and their families on adapting to parenthood
Taking physiological observations and blood tests
Being a strong team player, with the ability to work autonomously.
Providing chaperoning support to the woman and her partner during clinical examination
Working in collaboration with the Midwives.

Our dedicated midwives, doctors, maternity care support workers (MCSW's) and support staff are committed to providing personalised care to the highest standards.
The service at North Bristol Trust is based at Southmead Hospital and provides a full range of obstetric services for those who live in the catchment of North Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset.
The maternity department is one of the largest in the country, was awarded 'Good' by the CQC has more than 5200 births each year.
The fetal medicine department provides specialist support for families experiencing complicated pregnancies. The antenatal clinic provides outpatient appointments for women who require medical and midwifery care plans for their pregnancy.The Community Midwives provide antenatal and postnatal care for mothers and families in different areas of North Bristol and South Gloucestershire.
Ability to perform area specific clinical competencies in line with core standards under the direction of a Registered Practitioner
Assist with women's assessment within level of competence reporting immediately any changes in physical and mental condition to the Registered Practitioner.
Ability to communicate effectively, sensitively and compassionately with colleagues, women and visitors.
Understand the importance of accurate and timely communication within the health care environment.
Able to assess, prioritise and organise own workload and problem solve as required.
Demonstrate ability to work on own initiative following direction from Registered Practitioner.
Ability to establish good relationships with work colleagues, women and visitors
Able to work effectively within a team.
Able to support staff and students, who are undertaking training and assessment
Clinical:
Help to promote and maintain a clean and safe environment within the clinical area.
Contribute to accurate written and computerised documentation relevant to client care ensuring confidentiality of client information at all times e.g.
Be aware of the importance of good health and the health education needs of clients, which are identified within individual, care plans.
Caring for mothers and babies with safeguarding (child protection) issues
Prepare and undertake agreed clinical activities after training and competence has been achieved such as:
Obtaining basic specimens as required e.g. urinalysis
Blood sugar analysis
Obtaining and processing samples for sexually transmitted infections
Undertaking phlebotomy as directed by the midwife
Performing and recording observations such as respiration, temperature, pulse, blood pressure, height, weight, as directed by the midwife

Other Responsibilities
- Ensure effective and economical use is made of all supplies and equipment
- Take responsibility for ensuring stock levels are maintained and clinical areas and equipment are clean and tidy at all times.
