Description
We would like to offer an opportunity to start or progress your career in the NHS.

We would consider full time or part time hours for this post where you will be working for the Newcastle Hospitals Trust Podiatry department, supporting Podiatrists to manage the treatment of a range of disorders of the foot and ankle.

The department works across all of the Newcastle Hospitals sites, and community clinics.

We are looking for an enthusiastic assistant to support busy podiatry clinics at the Newcastle Diabetes Centre, nail surgery clinics, the Freeman vascular clinic and community clinics.

The assistant will help the Podiatrists, and the wider multi-disciplinary team to ensure clinics run safely and efficiently. Supporting patients through the clinics, helping by removing wound dressings, and plaster casts. Also assisting with booking appointments, ensuring stock and equipment are available and in good working order for each clinic.

The Podiatry Support Assistant role is varied depending on the needs of the service, and may occasionally require covering clinic reception and supporting the admin office with appointment bookings.

A range of IT skills and a willingness to learn new systems is essential to this role.

  • Interview Date 31/05/202
  • Full & Part Time Hours/Week

This role is key to the smooth running of the department as the support required to Podiatrists will vary depending on the changing needs of the service and individual patient needs.

Support and training will be provided to the successful applicant in order to become competent in various tasks.

For example - in nail surgery clinics you will be trained to act as the Podiatrist's assistant for the minor surgery session.

You will receive training to remove plaster casts for the role in the Diabetes Centre, and you will learn how to use toe pressure testing kit to check a patient's blood flow in the foot.

This role may also require you to occasionally assist the Podiatrist out on visits to patient's homes and residential/nursing care homes.

In community clinics you will work with a Podiatrist to treat patients who are brought to the clinic by the Patient Transport Service.

These patients are often elderly with poor mobility and require support into the clinics to keep them safe. Experience of working with elderly patients is therefore desirable.

Clear communication with a range of staff and patients is essential to arrange appointments and book patient transport. You will be required to liaise with several specialities in order to co
