Description
The post holder will be a key member of the Pharmacy Team.

They will be responsible for providing a high standard support role to the Pharmacy Department.


Dispensary:

To maintain a supply of bottles, cartons and bags for the Dispensary. To ensure that the tablet counter and counting triangles are kept clean. To assist with answering the telephones. To dispense out-patient medicines under the supervision of a qualified, registered pharmacist.


Aseptics:


  • To spray and wipe items into the support room using the correct technique.
  • To deliver manufactured items to the treatment suite.

Purchasing and stock control:

To check and remove expiring stock on a monthly basis. To liaise with the Procurement Technician on expiring stock to ensure minimum wastage. To ensure that stock control is practiced both in the Pharmacy and in other departments holding pharmaceuticals. To be involved in the accurate receipt of aseptic drugs onto the BD CATO system. To requisition consumables from the Purchasing/Materials department. To requisition stationary form the Purchasing/Materials department. To ensure that stock rotation takes place in the pharmacy. To be involved in the stock counts of Pharmacy. To accurately check off deliveries against delivery notes. To assist with the accurate processing of purchasing paperwork.


Others:

To promptly and accurately capture charges. To be assist with general Housekeeping within the department, including cleaning of pharmacy equipment and maintenance of general tidiness. To carry out general filing duties. To be aware of and observe all Health and Safety requirements applicable to the work of the Pharmacy department. To comply with the DATA Protection Act. To comply with the Health and Safety at Work Act, OSHH and other relevant regulations. To perform all tasks in a safe manner, complying with relevant written procedures. To abide by the HCA Code of Conduct.

To carry out duties in a safe working environment in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act and EC Directives and to adhere to all Company and statutory policies and procedures relating to Health and Safety and Infection Control.

To ensure correct and safe disposal of all unwanted medication. To attend mandatory training, (Basic Life Support, Manual Handling and Fire/Evacuation etc.), and update on an annual basis. To carry out any other duties at the request of the Senior Technician.

Supplementary Information

In order to perform this role to experienced worker standard the post holder will need:

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
Previous experience in administrative work. Previous work in a pharmacy is desirable.


  • Basic Knowledge of a computer.
3. 5 GCSE's or equivalent.


  • Has an understanding of stock control and purchasing
  • Understands local Pharmacy Policies, relevant Hospital policies and the HCA medication policy.

PROBLEM SOLVING ABILITY

  • Dealing with enquiries from staff and patients.
  • Dealing with incorrect orders from suppliers.
  • Assessing stock discrepancies.

SPHERE OF INFLUENCE

  • Liaising with Pharmacy and other staff and patients in a professional manner, whilst maintaining confidentiality.
  • Reports to the Senior Technician.
  • Accountable to the Pharmacy Manager.
  • Works closely with the Technicians and Pharmacists,
