About the Role:


  • Brentwood Surgery is looking for a well organised and reliable individual, who enjoys interacting with people on the phone and face to face, to join our team as a parttime receptionist for 18 hours per week.
  • Our receptionists provide an important link for patients with the practice and are the initial contact point for general enquiries. They can provide basic information on services and results as well as direct patients to the right person. Receptionists make most of the patient appointments with the GPs and nurses. They also perform other important tasks such as issuing repeat prescriptions and dealing with prescription enquiries, dealing with financial claims, dealing with patient records and carrying out searches and practice audits.
  • Responsibilities:
  • Answer telephone calls and book appointments with the appropriate member of the clinical team as required.
  • Answer, navigate and forward incoming phone calls.
  • Greet and welcome patients when the visit the surgery.
  • Direct visitors to the appropriate person and room as required.
  • Receive, sort and distribute daily mail/deliveries.
  • Maintain office security by following safety procedures and controlling access via the reception desk.
  • Update calendars and schedule meetings.
  • Perform other clerical receptionist duties such as filing, photocopying, transcribing and faxing.


Ideally applicants have previous experience of working in a GP surgery reception team; experience of using SystmOne is desirable and proven strong communication skills are essential.

Some flexibility is required, as you will sometimes need to work additional or alternative hours to cover for colleagues.


About Us:


Beechwood Surgery is a large, busy surgery based in Brentwood, Essex, with excellent transport links by rail and road, as well as an onsite car park.


  • The practice is led by four GP Partners, and supported clinically by two salaried GPs, four Clinical Pharmacists, Physicians Associate, three Nurses and a Health Care Assistant. The clerical team consists of a Practice Manager, five admin assistants, two secretaries and a team of receptionists.
