Due to investment in our service and internal promotions we are looking for a high profile, accessible and responsive leader with twenty-four-hour patient, staff, service and resource responsibility.

A clinical expert, working as a member of the multi-professional team, providing and developing specialist services and advice who is able to make informed decisions within their own speciality and scope of professional practice to ensure agreed standards and objectives are met.


The post holder will be expected to provide clinical expertise and knowledge, demonstrating a sound understanding of the issues related to identification, assessment, treatment and management of the Neonate and the Neonatal service.

They will monitor and improve standards of care through clinical audit, evidence base practice, teaching and supporting professional colleagues and the provision of skilled professional leadership.

The post holder will act to forward the trust clinical governance agenda ensuring that the quality of the patient care is central to all relevant systems and processes, able to make an informed decisions within their own area and scope of professional practice.

UHCW'S Level III Neonatal Unit provides a wide range of services to sick newborn babies and forms part of the West Midlands Perinatal Network.

The unit strives to provides family centered care to a range of babies from those born extremely prematurely around 22 weeks gestation to term babies who are sick at birth.

We offer therapies such as Nitric Oxide, Cooling and ROP laser surgery using state of the art, new equipment.


UHCW neonatal unit looks after up to 8 Intensive care cots, 8 High dependency cots, 14 Special care cots and 6 Transitional care cots.

We have a LMNS Outreach service and a wellbeing counselling service for families and staff.

The unit has been accredited as the first level 3 Neonatal unit in the area as Baby Friendly by Unicef for the excellent practice in the support of infant feeding and parent-infant relationships.

We have also been awarded our Bronze Bliss award. In our last CQC inspection UHCW was rated as good.

Over the years the unit has built an excellent reputation for high quality healthcare and outstanding career development.

We support extended roles such as FiCare lead nurse, Transport Nurse, Neonatal Educational Practitioner, Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner, Developmental Care Nurse & Infant Feeding Nurse roles.
