The Centre for Research in Early Childhood (CREC) is looking to employ a part time Editorial Assistant & Membership Officer to support the organisation's national and international work.


CREC is a well-respected Early Years research centre and the organisation incorporates a research charity, a training company, a European research network and a UK research organisation.

The post(s) will be based at CREC's offices in central Birmingham but with some flexibility on working from home. The post is offered on a permanent basis. An annual salary of £28,000 FTE is offered plus generous holiday allowance and pension contributions.

Editorial Assistant (Academic Journal) and Membership Officer 0.4FTE (additionality up to 0.6 FTE may be available)


CRECis looking to employ a new part-time member of staff to support its international work with responsibility for 2 key areas - Academic journal support; and membership administration for EECERA _(The European Early Childhood Education Research Journal (EECERJ) is the highly rated (SSCI) journal of _EECERA_.

The journal, published 6 times/year, is administered from CREC)_

The post will be based in central Birmingham but with some flexibility on working from home. An annual salary of £28,000 FTE is offered plus generous holiday allowance and pension contributions.


The editorial assistant will support the Co-ordinating Editor in the production of this leading Early Years journal, facilitating its contribution to the scholarly output of the Association and helping maintain and grow its scientific status.

Key tasks include overseeing the publishers' administrative system which processes manuscripts; allocating and managing peer-reviewers; maintaining oversight of the review process and ensuring it advances in a timely fashion; maintaining communication between authors and the Co-ordinating Editor; liaising with administrative and publishing staff at Taylor & Francis; using ScholarOne to manage review processes and provide information to the journal's Co-ordinating Editor and Editorial Board, on journal content, readership, marketing, etc., and contribute to the production of reports thereon.

The Administrator will also manage the membership services function for the Association through the website ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction for the c170 members.


For this role, it is deemed essential that the post holder has a knowledge of, and commitment to Early Years and/or Education as well as experience in either academic publishing or complex administration and working with online systems which involve the tracking of projects/clients over time.

The successful applicant(s) should:
- have successful experience of course/journal/complex administration E
- have successful experience of working in the field of Early Years/Education E
- have experience of working across different projects/activities simultaneously E
- demonstrate strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to provide friendly and professional service E
- have experience of data management and knowledge of data protection E
- have the ability to be flexible, work effectively under pressure and deal with conflicting priorities E
- display the ability to work independently and autonomously, as well as closely and collaboratively with others E
- demonstrate an excellent level of ICT competence, particularly online databases, MS Office (inc Excel) E
- have experience of producing data for reporting D
- have a personal and positive commitment to CREC's vision and values E
