Job Opportunity:

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Cargo Underwriter to join our Marine Team, based in London.

Day-to-day responsibilities of this role include contribution towards the growth and build-out of the UK/International Wholesale Cargo proposition across all relevant distribution channels, pre-qualifying accounts, utilising underwriting acumen to select risks within the company's risk appetite and expanding and developing new business opportunities through engagement with brokers and customers.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Support the development and buildout of the Cargo book that is consistent with the teams focus on profitable growth
Establish, develop, and expand on broker and customer relationships while developing new ones
Underwrite accounts while ensuring appropriate analysis and documentation without sacrificing discipline, diligence and quality service
Underwrite complex and challenging risks while developing creative solutions for our brokers and customers
Be a positive reflection on the company by demonstrating integrity and leadership in the marketplace
Understand evolving market conditions and how to respond with informed underwriting decisions while maintaining strong external relationships
Effectively communicate BHSI's value proposition and demonstrate leadership in the region
Collaborate with teammates across all product lines, claims and actuarial

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

Up to 10+ years of Cargo Underwriting experience.
Collaborative, team focused
Strong financial acumen with highly analytical outlook
Solid understanding of policy forms and coverage, including common market forms and manuscript requests
Existing broker and customer relationships, or the experience and ability to develop strong broker and customer relationships quickly.
Market respect and ability to lead programs and create trust with brokers and customers
Degree or equivalent education, and/or strong insurance qualifications
