An exciting opportunity has arisen to become a part time Medical Secretary within the Cardiology team at Southend Hospital in a challenging position requiring someone who is a team player, flexible, organised and is able to work well under pressure.


As our Medical Secretary you will provide comprehensive secretarial and administrative support to the Consultant and clinical team and be the first point of contact for patients, doctors and staff throughout the Trust.

Your main responsibilities will be to provide comprehensive secretarial and administrative support to the Consultant and their team to support with the demands of their service as required for which previous medical secretarial experience in a mental health or other NHS setting alongside

clinical systems knowledge and audio typing skills would be highly beneficial.


Your role requires that you are an excellent communication skills, dedication to exceptional patient care and service, have the ability to meet the demands of working in a busy environment and are able to represent their team and department with the professionalism expected from all our staff.


Please note:
A typing test will be required at interview

You will work as part of the clinical support services team to ensure delivery of a comprehensive and effective administration service to medical personnel across the directorate including the provision of a comprehensive typing and secretarial service, advise relevant departments of consultant and team members annual and study leave arrangements to ensure that relevant adjustments are made to clinic templates and theatre schedules

You will liaise with appropriate departments and team members to ensure that any new services introduced run smoothly and efficiently, be versatile and adaptable to the demands of the medical team and ensure that the Consultant and/or clinical team adhere to local protocols and government directives regarding waiting list targets


You will undertake routine office duties including photocopying, faxing and general day to day maintenance of records when required, provide cover for absent colleagues within the secretarial team during annual leave and unplanned absences if the need arises, have a good understanding of RTT and be able to appropriately outcome patients in line with RTT pathways and work as part of the clinical support services team to contribute to the delivery of a comprehensive and effective medical administration service across the directorate.
