BDUK is responsible for delivering several exciting contracts to our UK defence customers including E-7 AEW&C, P-8A Maritime Patrol Aircraft, C4ISTAR Services, Through Life Support for the Chinook & Apache Fleets, Logistic Information Services and Training Services.

Rationale:


Reporting to the BDUK SMS Safety Official Manager, this post will support the implementation of the SMS within the E-7 programme at RAF Lossiemouth and during the modification and flight test phase at Birmingham International Airport and MoD Boscombe Down respectively.

Travel to these sites will be required until the aircraft are delivered to RAF Lossiemouth.

The role has the following key responsibilities:

  • Develop and sustain a strong Positive Safety Culture within the E-7 programme
  • Occurrence Management of relevant E7 safety reports
  • Perform Safety Investigations in response to the triaging of safety reports
  • Facilitation of Hazard Working Groups to create and mature BowTies and coordination of safety risk management, including risk sentencing
  • Perform Safety Promotion and feedback
  • Support the facilitation and deliver safety performance metrics as part of the appropriate Safety Actions Group
  • Manage and support Safety meetings associated with the E7 programme
  • Creation and maintenance of the Platform documentation and maintaining a strong SMS interface with the MoD Air Safety Teams and Mil CAM
  • Track and monitor safety actions and recommendations
  • Safety communication to management, leadership teams and the workforce
  • Support to 1st, 2nd and 3rd Party audits
  • Maintenance of the Safety Records
  • Travel within the UK is expected and some overseas travel may be required.

Preferred background and experience:


  • Formal engineering or flying qualification including experience in aircraft operations or aircraft maintenance
  • Experience in conducting safety investigations in aviation
  • Formal Safety Management Systems training and experience
  • Experience in developing metrics to evaluate safety status and provide performance visibility.
  • Experience in working across multiple functions to create relationships and understanding in order to progress difficult issues.
  • Ability to identify help needed and coordinate with the appropriate leaders and team members.
