First Steps ED supports people of all ages, genders, and backgrounds experiencing problems with eating difficulties and eating disorders.

The role will require the ability to deliver our virtual/face-t o-face services to provide individuals with the support through our Early Help Eating Disorder programme to facilitate progression and change in their home, education, and community environments.

It involves working with a range of professionals to ensure provision of high quality and safe services to children,young people and adults in accordance with the NHS Service Specification.


The post holder will have at least one years' experience of working with people with eating disorders and/ or mental health difficulties and have a good understanding of the pathways and services to ensure quality and safe services are delivered on and off site and through our digital services.


You will be working as part of a multidisciplinary team that includes other health service staff such as psychiatrists, occupational therapists, community psychiatric nurses, clinical psychologists, wellbeing practitioners and social workers, and staff colleagues from across our organisation.


A clean driving licence with appropriate insurance and own vehicle is required to travel to and from locations agreed with the Service Coordinator.

Expenses are reimbursed at 45 pence a mile. Public transport will not support this role.


Responsible For:


1.0 Main Tasks
1.1 Manage a caseload of children, young people and adults who use our services.


1.2 To formulate and implement plans agreed with the NHS Care Coordinator for the management of a service user's eating disorder problems, based upon an appropriate agreed recovery plan with the service user and their family parent/carer.


1.3 To implement a range of interventions to tackle the individuals eating disorder behaviours adjusting and refining approaches, informed by evidence-based approaches.


1.4 To exercise professional responsibility for the treatment plan goals, including communication with the NHS Care Coordinator and others involved in care.


1.5 To work as part of a multi-disciplinary team with other NHS services to safeguard and ensure the quality of care of the service user.


1.6 To undertake risk assessment and risk management for individual service users and to work in collaboration with other services to manage risks identified.

1.7 To work with the management team to manage a case load of service users.


1.8 Develop, with stakeholders, an appropriate personal support plan and risk assessment which takes account of their full range of needs, using a person-centred approach.


1.9 To arrange initial assessment appointments for people to assess the most appropriate service and provide up-to-date relevant information during assessment.

1.10 To develop self-help groups and positive activities for people experiencing problems with eating difficulties and disorders in their local community

1.11 To ensure that the services are well planned, and that information is delivered to relevant organisations to attract young people to the service

1.12 To support NHS Primary Care and Secondary referrals to the services for people who have eating disorders.


1.13 To ensure that all sessions are monitored, and information recorded and collated to produce reports against service impact for our commissioners and funders.


1.14 Participate in liaison with community teams to contribute towards decision making, helping to ensure an inclusive approach is maintained at all times.


1.15 Positively promote the service at all times, including participating in awareness raising events and taking part in activities designed specifically to promote the service.


2.0 Liaison, Communication and Working Relationships
2.1 Assist in the development and maintenance of good working relationships with relevant statutory and voluntary agencies in order to facilitate access to a full range of appropriate services

2.2 Assist in the development of close links with the local community, promoting a greater understanding of mental health issues and eating disorders

2.3 Liaise with the Service Coordinator and other team members in the referral process for new people using services; ensuring the anonymity/confidentiality of people and parents/carers and potential referrals, are respected at all times

2.4 Work closely with other team members and partner agencies at all times to ensure the highest possible standards of support


3.0 Administration, Monitoring and Evaluation


3.1 Accurately maintain all recording systems - paper based and computerised (including databases), ensuring compliance with First Steps ED procedures and Policies.

3.2 Provide regular reports as required.

3.3 Maintain clear, accurate individual records, which are accessible to people using services within the agreed policy.
