The West Wing Clinical Research Centre (WWCRC) is a clinical research facility at the Sutton site of The Royal Marsden Hospital which provides a dedicated space and comfortable environment for patients participating in clinical trials.

WWCRC has a dedicated laboratory facility for the processing of pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamics blood samples, essential for clinical trials as well as a dedicated pharmacy room for rapid dispensing of clinical trial drugs.

It incorporates space for the Clinical Research Teams to operate with consulting rooms for research clinics, which encompass consent, screening, baseline and on-treatment patient visits.

There are a limited number of day recovery beds for patients undergoing research-related per-protocol tumour biopsies/procedures. WWCRC is in the West Wing of the hospital on the first floor.


The West Wing Clinical Research Centre Administrative Assistant/ Scheduler/ Receptionist post is an integral position within The West Wing Clinical Research Centre (WWCRC) team, under the supervision of the Sister of the unit and the Matron.

The post holder will assist with all administrative aspects of the unit including data collection, reception and clerical duties to maintain an efficient, welcoming and proactive administrative and receptionist service.


The post holders must adopt a professional and caring attitude with a polite and courteous manner in all aspects of communication to staff and visiting patients and their families.

  • To deal with all patient research referrals from clinicians/ research nurses, ensuring that the treatment is scheduled within WWCRC guidelines.
  • To liaise directly with the patient regarding their treatment, providing information and reassurance and managing patient expectations regarding their appointment.
  • To liaise with the clinical research teams and nursing staff/ research nurses to prioritise the scheduling of new referrals and continuing appointments.
  • To schedule all treatment on the Unit in line with local guidelines and protocols.
  • To plan patient treatment and unit capacity efficiently, having consideration for a range of influencing factors such as the nursing staff rota, pharmacy turnaround times, WWCRC opening hours and availability of blood results etc.
  • To plan and to reschedule workload, when necessary, to ensure that the unit capacity is optimally utilised.
  • To ensure that all patients leave the unit with an appointment for their next clinic and treatment, where appropriate.
  • To reschedule appointments for patients whose treatment has been cancelled or delayed.
  • To adhere to patient appointment booking processes on the Digital Health Record, ensuring that Trust procedures and local protocols are met.
