Description

We are looking for a Research Assistant with a background in immunology/ neurobiology to join the interdisciplinary laboratory of Dr Fränze Progatzky.

You will contribute to a Wellcome Trust funded research project to study the role of peripheral glial cells in the regulation of immune homeostasis and inflammation of the lung and to determine underlying pathways that control their interaction with other lung tissues in health and disease.

You will contribute to the set-up of this newly established laboratory, as well as general daily laboratory management.

You will optimise multicolour flow cytometry, whole tissue clearing and advanced 3D imaging protocols to define lung glial cell phenotypes and functions using software, such as FlowJo and Imaris.

In addition, you will have the opportunity to establish your own independent project under your own initiative within the scope of the laboratory's research programme.


You will hold a first degree in biological sciences, together with specialist knowledge and relevant experience of working in an interdisciplinary research team studying neuro-immunology.

Proven ability to manage your own research and administrative activities is essential, as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to write text that can be published, present data at conferences, and represent the research group at meetings.

This is a full-time fixed-term appointment for 2 years.

Due to the nature of the research at the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology, this job will require additional security pre-employment checks:
