An opportunity has arisen for an Environment & Sustainability Advisor to join the growing team, ideally based from Ashby, to support the delivery of environment and environmental sustainability requirements for projects across the UK.

This will be split between Project Delivery Environmental Management, and strategic support / business risk that will include decarbonisation, resource efficiency, biodiversity etc.


Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the development of project specific environment and environmental sustainability documentation in line with business needs, legislation, and specific client requirements. For example; Environment Management Plans (EMP/ESMPs), Environment and Social Risk Assessments (ESRAs) and Site Waste Management Plans (SWMPs).
  • Ensure project teams are aware of and have appropriately programmed for management of environment and social issues especially those related to permits, licences, and consents.
  • Identify and assist in the implementation of projectlevel environmental and environmental sustainability opportunities
  • Ensure integration of environmental and environmental sustainability deliverables (e


g:

key documentation, data collection and reporting, training, etc) within project activities

  • Actively participate in relevant business/project meetings.
  • Manage and undertake environmental inspections and audits of projects/offices/sites/depots (including in other regions as required)
  • Be the lead technical support for any environmental incident investigations
  • Develop and deliver (or directly assist in) environmental and relevant sustainability training to staff and contractors
  • Be aware of and communicate emerging environmental and relevant sustainability legislation and best practices, working in conjunction with regional/corporate/industry counterparts
  • Work in collaboration with all project relevant team members (e

EHS, commercial, construction, design, etc) and actively interface with Client counterpart and other contractors (e


g:

principal contractors, alliance organisations, supply chain partners, etc) to drive environment and relevant sustainability deliverables

  • Engage and/or manage external specialists (e


g:

for ecology, noise, or community engagement) to deliver specific business or project-level advice, services or other support

  • Support the work winning teams in developing high quality/tailored environment and sustainability bid responses
  • Support development and implementation of corporate environment and relevant sustainability workstreams, where requested.
  • Be an ambassador with regards to the promotion of a positive environment and sustainability culture both internally and externally

Key Competencies

  • Degree or diploma in environmental or relevant sustainability field
  • Membership of a relevant professional organisation (e


g:

IEMA, CIWEM, IES)

  • Current (or clear timeline to achieving) Membership of IEMA (or equivalent) (Senior Advisor
  • Full Member, Advisor
  • Practitioner Level)
  • Ability to prepare high quality written documentation
  • Ability to effectively engage with both office and sitebased personnel
  • Willingness to provide guidance and constructive feedback to colleagues on environmental and relevant sustainability issues
  • Experience in the development and/or delivery of environment and sustainability briefing materials
  • Actively engaged in Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities
  • Detailed knowledge of one or more specific environment topics (desirable)
  • Previous experience in an environmental or relevant sustainability field, ideally within the construction and/or rail industry
