Opportunity for a buyer to join an established, growing, SME with plans to grow and expand the business further on a 12-month fixed-term contract. The company offers a close-knit, relaxed and friendly culture with an approachable management teamand there will be the prospect of the role becoming permanent for the right person should the business continue its current growth path.


You will work as part of the purchasing function and work closely with the purchasing manager to help to ensure that materials arrive at the site in line with customer demand, the best costs are achieved, and all supply chain processes and procedures areadhered to.


As the buyer, your duties will include:

  • Verifying purchase requisitions
  • Maintaining data on systems relating to price agreements, etc.
  • Updating information as required to reflect any changes.
  • Interacting with suppliers to maintain relationships and source goods where required.
  • Respond to, or redirect, routine enquiries from external or internal sources about purchasing activities.
  • Monitoring stock levels and supplier lead times to identify any issues.
  • Contacting suppliers to progress orders.
  • Inputting data onto the MRP/database systems
  • Planning orders to maintain inventory levels.
  • Ordering materials and components to meet production schedules.
  • Taking ownership of assigned items of inventory.
  • Expediting material requirements to meet customer demands.
  • Editing requisitions and communicating with various stakeholders regarding changing demands
  • Liaise with vendors regarding corrective actions due to nonconformity to specifications.
  • Providing support as required for company stocktake processes.
  • Adhoc purchasing of materials, goods and services as required.
  • Previous experience in a purchasing, procurement or supply chain department
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment is desirable.
  • A degreelevel qualification or CIPS accreditation is highly desirable.
  • MRP/ERP experience is desirable.

In return, the buyer will receive a salary of £28,000-£35,000 (dependent on experience) + pension, 20 days holiday plus bank holidays, etc.


The hours of work are based on a 38.5-hour week with some flexibility around start and finish times, you will work a 9-hour day Monday to Thursday and a 4.5-hour day on a Friday (early finish).
