We are recruiting to a 22.5 hour post working Monday to Friday on a permanent basis.

An Enhanced DBS with Adults' Barred List check will be obtained during pre-employment checks

  • Work closely with the Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists in the Hand Therapy Team to provide excellent clinical care to patients with Upper Limb conditions.
  • Work under the supervision of qualified therapists to use Aseptic Non Touch Technique for wound care for post operative Hand patients.
  • Develop skills in making thermoplastic splints and casts for the hand and wrist.
  • Work alongside the Occupational Therapist and Splinting Technician to learn skills in designing and creating customised bespoke garments for the Upper Limb.
  • Complete housekeeping duties to support the day to day running of the department.
  • Be responsible for stock ordering for the Hand Therapy team.
  • When required, support the running of the main Therapy department by working alongside the physiotherapists, including hydrotherapy and rehabilitation classes in the Outpatient Therapy gym.
  • Have good interpersonal skills and experience of team working.
  • Demonstrate computer literacy skills.
  • Have previous experience of working in a Therapy services or a Healthcare environment.

On-Call


Please note that senior positions (AFC band 8A or above) may be expected to participate in an on-call rota, if the role is predominantly operational.


  • To work under the supervision of therapists' to effectively contribute to the overall clinical experience for the patient. To complete standardised assessments and follow treatment plans as prescribed by Therapy staff.
  • To assess post operative wounds and redress using Aseptic Non Touch Technique, with the guidance of a qualified therapist.
  • With guidance and support, provide Casts and thermoplastic splints to patients post Trauma or post elective surgery.
  • To safely provide off the shelf splints and advice and exercise to patients to help them achieve their goals.
  • To work closely with the Occupational Therapist and Splinting Technician to develop skills in design and fabrication of garments for the upper limb. These are made from lycra or neoprene materials and involves the use of sewing machines.
  • To assist with the running out the Outpatient Therapy Department when required. This may include supporting hydrotherapy sessions and completing pool safety checks. May also be required to help set up gym rehabilitation classes.
  • To manage a routine caseload independently.
  • To keep accurate written records and statistics as required by the Therapy service and Trust.
  • To take responsibility for the upkeep and management of Hand Therapy treatment areas, completing housekeeping duties to ensure smooth running of the service.
  • To be responsible for monitoring Stock and ordering supplies.
  • To attend regular meetings eg: staff meetings and development groups.
  • To maintain portfolio of competencies showing ability to take responsibility for own learning.
  • To participate in and contribute to the training and education of students and other staff.
